A bare walled plot transformed into a garden of sweeping lawn and generously planted borders.
This one started as bare soil inside old brick and flint walls. Beautiful bones, but nothing growing, and a blank canvas can be the hardest brief of all.
The design gives the space a strong, simple shape: a sweeping curved lawn that draws you through the garden to a gravel sitting circle at the far end, framed by benches and a warm brick wall.
The borders do the talking. Deep planting of salvias, alchemilla, hostas and grasses wraps the lawn on both sides, layered so that something is always coming into its own from March through to the frosts.
